What began as a seawall replacement at Seahorse Landing became one of the clearest tests of why a marine contractor has to be able to adapt in real time. After Hurricane Idalia destroyed the property’s existing seawall and triggered major shoreline erosion, Ultramarine Solutions was brought in to rebuild the wall and stabilize the shoreline. Then a second storm changed the entire scope.
A Second Storm, a Bigger Problem
Ultramarine was still working through the permitting process for the seawall rebuild when Hurricane Helene struck the same property. The storm washed out soil beneath the building foundation and created structural concerns that simply weren’t present at the original inspection. Conditions were serious enough that the City required the owners to evacuate until the foundation could be secured. Almost overnight, the job shifted from a straightforward seawall replacement into a full shoreline and structural stabilization effort.
Rebuilding the Shoreline and the Foundation
Rather than treat the two problems separately, Ultramarine worked alongside the project engineer to solve both at once. In addition to rebuilding the seawall, our team installed helical piles beneath the buildings to stabilize the structure and prevent further settlement. Those piles transferred the building loads down into stable bearing material below the washed-out areas, without adding disturbance to an already compromised structure. With limited site access and active erosion in play, the work demanded tight coordination between marine construction operations and foundation stabilization.

A Long-Term Solution for Shoreline and Structure
The new seawall restored full shoreline protection to the property, while the helical pile system and added retaining wall stabilized the building foundation and made up for the supporting soils the storms had carried away. Seahorse Landing is a clear example of how quickly coastal conditions can change across back-to-back hurricanes, and why the ability to adapt scope on the fly matters. By combining seawall reconstruction with structural stabilization, Ultramarine delivered the owners a solution that protects both the shoreline and the building itself.
