Groulx Residential Seawall Replacement

After Hurricane Irma destroyed the seawall protecting the Groulx property, the homeowner turned to UltraMarine for a complete replacement engineered to withstand future storms. The failed structure was removed and a new seawall system installed, designed for long-term coastal protection in Florida’s demanding waterfront conditions.

The property sat north of Hurricane Irma’s eyewall, where the storm produced a strong negative surge that rapidly pulled water away from the shoreline. As the water receded, the seawall lost the balancing hydrostatic pressure on its waterfront side, while the saturated soils behind the wall kept pushing against it. That sudden imbalance forced the wall outward until it failed. The displacement was severe enough that the existing seawall could not be repaired or reused, so it had to be fully removed before a new system could go in.

  • Removed the failed seawall in full after determining it could not be repaired or incorporated into a new design
  • Installed 16-foot vinyl panels selected for durability and corrosion resistance in the marine environment
  • Added helical tiebacks for structural support and resistance to future loading conditions
  • Tied the system together with a reinforced concrete cap for long-term strength and stability
  • Stabilized the shoreline and protected surrounding property throughout construction
